Mrs. Wofford's 5th grade students are LOVING the new Chromebooks! They are all able to access Google Docs in order to create their persuasive writing pieces. By sharing their pieces with me, I stay busy providing instant feedback on their work while it's in progress. I love being able to view their creations in action!

Save Fred!
SAVE FRED!
Oh no! Fred's boat has capsized. Even worse, his life preserver is trapped under the boat. The challenge: Save Fred WITHOUT touching Fred, the boat, or the life preserver with your hands!
Mrs. Wofford's 1st/2nd grade gifted resource students formed a hypothesis and then tested it. All teams were successful in saving Fred using a variety of strategies.

Raise the Flag!
In our 4th grade social studies, the students are learning about the events that led to the American Revolution. We learned that, according to the Intolerable Acts, colonists were not allowed to have town meetings. Therefore, the colonist, aided by the Sons of Liberty, had to devise a plan to announce to others that a meeting was being held. A red flag was raised to make the colonist aware that a meetings was to be held.
The students were challenged to signal a flag that would be the tallest, most creative, and free-standing. Points were tabulated to determine a winner.

Word of the Week: CATAPULT
Catapult was one of 5th grade's vocabulary words this week. Why not offer a STEM challenge? The students were divided into teams to create a catapult that could launch a mini marshmallow the farthest. All teams were given the same supplies. As you can see, each catapult was unique!

It's NOT Greek to Us!
The 3rd grade students recently completed learning about the culture of Ancient Greece. The unit of study included the birth of democracy, the influence of Greek architecture in the United States, Greek mythology, and the art of Greece. As a culminating activity, the students celebrated by wearing traditional clothing called chitons (NOT togas!) and feasting on Greek cuisine.
